You know those people who have a spirit that can light up a room, make you smile even when you’re having the worst day of your life, make you feel like you can accomplish anything while you’re in the midst of a pitty party, seem to come into your life just at the right time to help you get through the tough times?   If we’re lucky we have known one or two of these throughout our life and feel blessed that we’ve been able to call them a friend.  I hold these people dear to my heart and thank God that he’s had our paths cross.  When I started digital scrapbooking and participating in forums and on CTs I never thought it was going to be an environment which would lead me to so many of these special friendships.

This week I’m hosting Lauren’s first CT Spotlight and I wanted to focus not only on the creative inspiration I get from being part of this incredible team, but also recognize one of the many incredible women I’ve come to know and admire so very much.

Kellie (KellieP) is not only an amazing scrapper, but through her pages we see what an amazing wife and mother she is and having been on Lauren’s team with her for these past couple of years I’ve come to call her a friend.   She’ll never know how much her strength and uplifting spirit has kept me going over the past year of going through so many things with my daughter Grace’s health.  Thank you for being there for me Kellie and thank you for being you!

I honestly have so many layouts of Kellie that are favorites, but chose to highlight this one of her and her husband Tyler.  Not only does her beautiful spirit show in the photo, but her love for her family and strength is so evident in her journaling.

The entire team has gone through Kellie’s gallery and picked favorite layouts of hers to spotlight today.  Each has also put together a special message for her.   We love you Kellie!!

Lauren:

“Kellie has so many gorgeous los in her gallery, but I love this one in particular because to me, it truly sums her up….. full of love. You will find no one more generous, giving or passionate. Her strength, kindness and love radiate from her to all who know her…. and even though I only get to feel her warmth through a screen, I’m reminded oh so often, what a phenomenal person our Miss. Kellie is. *loves* ”

 Jen:

“Kellie inspires me with her positive attitude. The the quote she chose for this layout embodies that. She reminds me that I need to pay more attention to my own sneaky little happiness!”

  Robin:

“Bumping into Kellie around the digi world never fails to make me smile. Her genuine spunk and spirit flow through the screen to all of us! Thanks, Kellie, for just being the person YOU are- we are all touched by your spirit!”

 Keely:

“As a digital scrapper I admire Kellie’s creativity and artistic abilities. I’ve been drooling over her pages for a long while now. She has a wonderful heart and it shows in her pages. Now I’m even more grateful to have gotten to know her and call her a friend. When I think of Kellie, I think of sunshine. She’s open, sweet, positive, kind, and a whole lot of fun. She’s shown me so much about strength and grace, the girl is a gem.”

Nicole:

“I just love the simplicity of the LO. The colours are so beautiful and of course the photograph is absolutely precious.”

 Karen:

“I admired Kellie long before I got to “know” her as part of the LRD CT. She has been such a cheerful and friendly part of the digiscrapping community and always has something positive or helpful to say. Apart from her art, however, I am even more in awe of Kellie’s strength. She has shared the story of her beautiful son Miles openly, and I’m sure has touched countless people in the process. I feel lucky to have gotten to know Kellie and always look forward to her beautiful pages!”

  Kelly:

“Since I met Kellie last year when joining Lauren’s team, I’ve just been amazed and so admire both her strength and her spunk. She is such a great girl with a heart of gold, and am so happy to call her a friend.”

 Barb:

“What I love….her courage and her upbeat attitude!  Here’s a layout that I really love….

In honor of Valentine’s Day this week, I wanted to share a story that moved me beyond words….

Yeah, yeah I know it’s a long post, but i PROMISE it’s worth it!

I originally saw this story on Oprah (which I rarely get to see w/ my crazy crew running around!), I sat….listened and cried… Ah the sweet power of true love….

love

When he was 12, Herman Rosenblat and his family were taken from their home in Poland and sent to a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. Young Herman was forced to work shoveling bodies into a crematorium. All the while he did not know if he, too, would soon be killed.

One day two years later, Herman walked up to the barbed wire fence and saw a girl on the other side. “She says, ‘What are you doing in there?’” Herman says. “I said to her, ‘Can you give me something to eat?’ And she took an apple out of her jacket.”

The girl fed Herman an apple every day for seven months. Then one day he told her not to come back—he was being moved to another camp. “A tear came down her eyes,” Herman says. “And as I turned around and went back I started to cry, too. I started to cry knowing that I might not see her again.”

Herman was shipped to Czechoslovakia. Just two hours before he was scheduled to die in the gas chambers there, Russian troops liberated the camp and Herman was set free.

Almost 15 years later, Herman was living and working in New York City. A friend set him up on a blind date with a woman named Roma Radzika. Herman says he was immediately drawn to her. When they began talking about their lives, Roma asked Herman where he was during World War II. “I said, ‘In a concentration camp,’” he says. “And then she says, ‘I came to a camp and I met a boy there and I gave him some apples and I sent them over the fence.’

“And suddenly it hit me like a ton of bricks. And I said to her, ‘There was a boy? Was he tall?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘And one day he told you not to come around anymore because he’s leaving?’ And she says, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘That boy was me.’

Roma and her family had moved from Poland to Germany, using forged papers to hide that they were Jewish. They lived on a farm next to Herman’s camp, posing as Christians to avoid being captured. Roma says when she brought apples and bread for Herman, he used to say, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Well, what can I tell you? I proposed right then and there,” Herman says. “I said, ‘Look, I’ll never let you go anymore. … Now that we’re free we’re going to be together forever.’”

In 1996, on The Oprah Show stage, Herman and Roma gave Oprah a moment she’ll never forget. Herman stood and addressed his wife: “Darling, you’ve fed me when I was hungry. You fed me when we were married. You fed me…until now. But now I’m not hungry anymore, and I’m hungry for your love!”

Since that day their love has continued to grow. Herman and Roma have now been married for nearly 50 years. He says he’s learned a valuable lesson from love. “Every morning when I get up I say, ‘I love you. I love you. I love you,’” Herman says. “And not only [do you say], ‘I love you,’ but you mean it.”

Eleven years after their first Oprah Show appearance, Herman decides to honor his wife again—this time by getting down on bended knee. “Sweetheart, it was 64 years ago when I first saw you,” he says to Roma. “My mother came to me and said to me, ‘I’m sending you an angel.’ And a couple of days later you appeared at the other side of the fence while I was in a concentration camp. Then in 1957, 14 years later, I had a blind date, and it was you. Now our 50th anniversary is coming up. With this ring, my dear, I pronounce my love for you forever. And as this ring has got no end, my love for you doesn’t have any end.”

crayons 2 computers

I know many of you out there are just like me….former paper scrappers who have dove head first into the digital world, and are left with a wealth of pretty, and pretty expensive paper scrapping supplies that aren’t getting any use. You can’t throw them out because 1) they still look pretty and 2) you paid a lot of money for them.

So what’s a scrapper to do? Well you can brighten the lives of people less fortunate, that’s what you can do! I’ve found that in my local community, there are a lot of options for donating craft and scrapbooking supplies for people who can really appreciate them. My personal favorite organization is Crayons to Computers ( http://crayons2computers.org/ ), a non profit organization that functions as a “free store” for teachers that teach in impoverished schools in my community. C2C has branches in several cities across the country, so check and see if there is one in your area.

If not, plenty of other places will be thrilled to accept your donated supplies, like the local Children’s Hospital, women’s shelters, churches, and senior citizens centers. And don’t forget, there are always your local schools. In these days where money for extras just doesn’t exist and teachers are buying supplies out of their own pockets, I’m sure they’d appreciate some yummy scrap goodness.

So what are you waiting for? Share the love today! Scrap supplies should be used and loved and not just hoarded!

Our Team is ready to spread some more sunshine and this time to a very strong mother and a courageous little girl.  We have followed the journey of a fellow digiscrapper NevadaJen and her daughter Victoria.

The above layout is one of Jen’s wonderful layouts of her daughter. Layout can be seen here.

In December little Victoria suffered a massive brain bleed and then continued to have surgery. We definitely thought Jen could use a little sunshine after some very long days.

Our team has been busy lifting Jen’s awesome gallery and here’s what we came up with…

Cathy’s lift of Jen’s My Girl layout

Kellie’s lift of Jen’s Wonderful Life layout

Stephanie’s lift of Jen’s Ice Cream layout

We want to send out huge hugs to Jen and her daughter and a big thank you for the inspiration!

Your Creative Team

One of my favorite things about being on Lauren’s creative team is the friendships I’ve gained. We have shared lots of laughs…and shed some tears together, too. It really is a great group of women on the team, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it!

Many of you know, my little boy Miles passed away when he was three months old from complications from prematurity. I have been working really hard on completing his scrapbook, but I would find myself so emotionally drained after doing a page. I asked the girls on Lauren’s team to see if any of them would want to scrap a page. I was overwhelmed and amazed at the response…and I treasure each of these pages more than they will ever know!

(We’re having technical difficulties w/ Slide, so click HERE to view the los!)

Aren’t those pages gorgeous? I am so much closer to finishing his book…and while it is sad that I feel like another chapter closes in the life of Miles, I look forward to being able to share is memory with others when they look at his book!

Thanks again my friends for all of your help! I love you all!!!

We can all say that we have been deeply touched by at least one person in our lives, but for the last couple of weeks myself, Lauren and the rest of her creative team have truly been touched in more ways than one with the story of two remarkabley strong women.

Our latest “RAKlift” project involves a very special digital gal by the name of Melissa Lewis (mlewis) and her younger sister Becky. We were all inspired by this story of two amazing strong women and the journey they are facing.  Melissa’s sister Becky was diagnosed with breast cancer this past spring and has recently undergone surgeries and chemo at the young age of 29.

As a digital scrapper Melissa has flooded her gallery with amazing layouts created with pictures of herself and Becky, along with the three beautiful boys they have. Melissa has also got Becky started on digital scrapbooking and we look forward to praising her work.

Here are a few of Melissa’s gorgeous layouts…

As a team, with the greatest effort, we chose to lift the spirits of both of these young women!! And what a better time than October as it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We were all inspired by the beautiful pictures and stories on Becky’s blog and decided we would hi-jack some of her pictures and create these…

And also honor her with a $100 giftcard to Lauren’s store to start her digital stash!

We also lifted Melissa’s amazing gallery

Lauren’s lift of It’s a Spring Thing

Renee’s lift of Yummo

Stephanie’s lift of Fall

Kelly’s lift of Attitude

Erica’s lift of Let’s Wrestle

Jenbreeze’s lift of Baby Blues

Kellie’s lift of Tasted Sweet

Meg’s lift of Smile

Keely’s lift of Spring

We thank Melissa and Becky for their wonderful story and for giving us so much inspiration. Our hearts and prayers go out to both of you in such a big way!

XOXO
